It's true. I'm a blog virgin.
I thought blogs were dumb. Well, I still haven't been awakened to the ultimate utility and awesomeness of blogs. When blogs first came on the scene (oh, ten years ago?) I thought "hah, how silly? who wants to read about the mundane activities of strangers?", and I patiently waited for the blog fad to fade...
So, here I am. I'm 28 - that's still young, yes? Yet, I've never blogged or tweeted. I don't spend hours on end on YouTube, iTunes or MySpace like many of my peers. Heck, I just signed on for the first time this weekend to that site that let's you listen to radio for free...Pandora. I don't subscribe to podcasts, although when I first got my iPod mini I downloaded some podcasts, but never got into the habit of syncing my pod.
I felt like I was doing good when I subscribed to get the daily feed from a few listservs and a Durham news blog website. Hah! I have a Blackberry, which is woefully underutilized (no apps, no games). I started sending text messages quite a bit until I was informed that it cost me $.10/text.
I feel like I'm falling increasingly farther behind the rest of the world in terms of my knowledge of and ability to use technological resources. This sounds a little depressing and embarrassing, but the good news about knowledge and ability is you can always make improvements. I'm always looking for ways to make myself a better person. In fact, just writing these paragraphs has made me acutely aware of how difficult it is to write something that is interesting and easy to read. My writing can use some work.
So, I set up a blog partly so I could be cool 'cause now I'm a "blogger" but more to start on a new path of self improvement. Not sure if this makes sense to anyone else, but that's okay. This blog's for me.
The past 25 minutes have been a great first experience. Making a blog is quick and easy. Who knew?!
I'm making a promise to myself right now: I won't let this blog take over my life. It's already past my bed time.
Bed time for Bonzo!
